The Proposal

Pleasure Point Sky

It was a night like any other.

Ben and I got Bodhi and Poppy ready for their evening walk. We walked down the street to the ocean. I asked Ben if we could go down to the beach instead of walking along the cliff. Usually, Ben will opt for walking on the cliff but tonight he said, sure let’s go.

There weren’t many people on the beach since it was mid-tide and only enough room to walk along the sand against the cliffs. We let the dogs off their leashes and they went running about while we walked along looking out at the surfers and the beautiful sunset. When we got about halfway down the beach in the seclusion of a little alcove, Ben put his arm around me and started saying how much he loved me, like really loved me. I looked up at him and said, I really love you too. He seemed a bit nervous which was out of the ordinary, he kept looking up at the cliff too, which I thought was a little strange. Then he got down on one knee, pulled a beautiful blue sapphire and diamond ring out of his pocket, held it up to me, and said, “Will you marry me?”

He was so cute, and looked so nervous! I didn’t want to leave him hanging for very long so I said, “Yes!” He slipped the ring on my finger and stood up. We hugged and kissed and grinned at each other. Both of us were very excited!

Meanwhile our dogs were running back and forth in front of us, playing at the water’s edge. I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful or more perfect place to get engaged. Surfing at Pleasure Point is where we find our greatest joy both individually and together. To be able to share something as unique and fulfilling as surfing together is truly a blessing. Now our memories of this magical place will include our engagement as well.
